Now you are all set to start your WordPress Website development. Here I would like to share my experience before we dive into the website development.
Psd to WordPress is the most commonly used practice nowadays. Designers design the mockup and after approval, the mockups are presented to the frontend developers and then the process goes on. Front-end developer slices the mockups and starts the web development. There are lots of ways to start a web page development from a PSD mockup. Here I will present you my way of working that simple and time saving without going through the other time-consuming steps.
The WordPress site has been published with its default theme. From now onwards the strategy making parts starts. Whether you start from header or footer or body part of the website. This is the best practice to start from the header and then footer, in this case, you will have some glance of the website straight away. Apart from slicing the psd images. I have 2 ways to slice the images.
1: slice all images at once before getting into the development.
2: slice only the required images for that particular section that you are creating.
Structure of the website is the key to the success of correct and flawless coding. Once you’re good with setting your website structure correctly then you don’t have to work redundantly for responsiveness and other styling issues. In order to cope with the hurdles in the future, the pre-requisite of the WordPress frontend development is to have sound knowledge of HTML is necessary. Without the knowledge of HTML you won’t be able to put a great website on board.
Before starting the project I usually add some libraries that are more commonly used nowadays.
1: Fonts: fonts from google fonts or converted from fonts 2 web.
2: Jquery: as I am using a blank theme so I have to include each and everything from scratch.
3: Fontawesome for icons.
4: Bootstrap: Responsive Framework
Setting Up Theme: I prefer to use blank slate theme as this theme does not have any predefined extra files or css or other functionality that causes conflicts with other files in future.
Setting Up style.css
Before getting deep into the development phase I usually rename some files in order to make a separate theme for every specific project. I rename the file see the screenshot.
Don’t forget to change the screenshot of the project with the jpg of your psd.
These are the easiest ways to start the development of your website. I have included all possible scenario to make your development easy. My blogs are for those who want to make their career as Front-end developer.
