Introduction

Assalamo Alikum to Toheed and everyone in this thread. I am both happy and sad. I feel sad for the freelancers who are struggling to get jobs on Upwork. I hope they all achieve success in becoming high-paid freelancers worldwide, InshaAllah.

However, I am pleased to share that I was able to secure a job on the same day that I came across the message from Brother Toheed on March 1st. Although I was occupied with a project, I wanted to take the time to respond to this thread.

Although I’m not an Upwork expert, I’d like to share my recent experience, which helped me secure a job. Please have a look at the linked screenshots and share your thoughts.

World Class Platform

Undoubtedly, it’s difficult to get a job on Upwork these days. The platform is constantly growing and changing based on the experiences of clients and freelancers. As Upwork is a world-class platform, you need to be smart to get a job on it.

Purchasing Connects

Simply purchasing connects and bidding on jobs won’t make your life easy. You have to understand how Upwork and its clients work. One of the Pakistani freelancers on Upwork spent hours just understanding the process.

If you want Upwork to be your full-time source of income, you need to adopt an approach that lasts. In my case, I got a project for landing page development on Unbounce after narrowing down my niche.

Narrow Down Your Niche

I realized that in my industry, I needed to narrow down my niche. For example, I’m a WordPress developer, so just writing “WordPress developer” on my headline won’t work. Instead, I need to narrow down my niche by writing “Landing page developer,” “WordPress speed optimization expert,” “WordPress Divi expert,” and so on.

Introductory video

Another important aspect is having an introduction video on your profile.

Most freelancers don’t have one, but clients prefer working with freelancers who have a video, as it shows their original appearance. Talk about yourself in the video, your skills, and how you can add value to a client’s work.

Adding Value

Nowadays, the champions in our industry are those who can generate leads for clients.

Anyone can create a stunning website, but not everyone can turn visitors into solid leads. Therefore, try to figure out how you can grow the Game or App so that the client can benefit from it.

Testimonials

Testimonials on your profile are crucial. Ask your previous employers and peers to give you testimonials that build your credibility.

When bidding on jobs, as Muslims, we should believe that we have Barkat in our mornings. Most of the time, when I get hired, it’s in the morning. Try to bid around 5 AM to 8 PM. You’re likely to get clients from Australia and England.

Selection of Right Client

Selecting the right client is crucial. Look for clients with over 70% hire rates, and check their history, testimonials, and other hiring patterns. If a client hasn’t hired anyone in two years, it’s unlikely they’ll hire you.

The Game of 2 Lines

When submitting a proposal, you only have two lines to impress clients. Therefore, don’t blow your own trumpet; write how you can add value to the job and help the client solve their problem.

More Proposals More Chance

Lastly, go for more proposals. The more proposals you send, the more clients you’ll be noticed by. Check your stats to see how many proposals you’ve sent and how many clients have viewed them. Upwork also lets you know when your proposal has been viewed by clients, so you can see who is looking at your proposals and why.

All the above information is based on my personal experience with Upwork. You may disagree with some points, but I’ve written what I’ve experienced on this world-class platform.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and any other points you’d like to add. Thank you.
